Extended Tribute to Ozzy Osbourne

The family of Ozzy Osbourne has graciously extended a tribute exhibition in Birmingham to accommodate the continuing admiration for the legendary rocker. Sharon Osbourne, alongside the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Zafar Iqbal MBE, inaugurated the “Working Class Hero” exhibition in June, coinciding with Black Sabbath’s remarkable homecoming concert at Villa Park.

Exhibition Details

Originally set to conclude on September 28, the free exhibit at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery will now be available for visitors until the end of the year, honoring the late star, thanks to the Osbourne family’s support.

“Ozzy Osbourne: Working Class Hero” highlights his most significant global achievements, including:

  • Grammy Awards
  • Rock and Roll Hall of Fame accolades
  • MTV Awards
  • Hollywood Walk of Fame
  • Birmingham Walk of Stars honors
  • Numerous platinum and gold discs

The exhibition also features photos and videos depicting his rise from a working-class background in Aston to becoming a globally recognized rock icon.

Visitor Response

Since its opening, the museum has recorded over 96,000 visitors. This extension follows the removal of hundreds of floral tributes and cards left by fans at the Black Sabbath Bench and Bridge on August 4, which Birmingham City Council confirmed would be passed along to Ozzy’s family.

Community Reactions

Sam Watson, chair of Central BID Birmingham, which partnered in the exhibition’s development, expressed pride in the project: “Central BID is extremely proud as curator and sponsor of the exhibition, which gives fans the chance to connect with the life and legacy of someone who never forgot where he came from. The response from the public has been phenomenal, and it’s only right that the exhibition continues so even more people can pay tribute to Ozzy’s extraordinary life.”

Zak Mensah and Sara Wajid, co-chief executives of the Birmingham Museums Trust, added: “We are delighted to announce the extension of Ozzy Osbourne: Working Class Hero to the end of the year. The public response to the exhibition has been overwhelming so far, demonstrating the love and affection for Ozzy from the people of Birmingham and beyond. We would like to extend our gratitude to Sharon and the rest of the Osbourne family for allowing us to continue to display this exhibition as a fitting tribute to Ozzy’s life and legacy and to enable as many fans as possible to come and visit.”
