As the Premier League Season Approaches

The Premier League is gearing up for the 2025–26 season, and the race for managerial sackings is already heating up. With just ten days until kickoff, betting odds indicate that Leeds United’s Daniel Farke is the frontrunner to be the first manager to depart, priced at 5/1 by talkSPORT BET.

Last Season’s High Profile Departures

Last season witnessed a flurry of managerial changes, with eight managers losing their jobs. Erik ten Hag was the first to go, departing Manchester United in October. Other notable sackings included Steve Cooper at Leicester in November, followed by simultaneous dismissals of Gary O’Neil and Russell Martin from Wolves and Southampton in December.

January saw the exits of Julen Lopetegui and Sean Dyche within a day of each other. April brought the second sacking of a Southampton manager when Ivan Juric was let go. Finally, Ange Postecoglou left Tottenham in June after a disappointing 17th place finish.

Daniel Farke’s Struggles in the Top Flight

Farke’s position seems precarious despite his success in securing Leeds’ promotion with a Championship title, accumulating an impressive 100 points. His Premier League track record, however, raises concerns. During his previous tenure at Norwich City in the 2019–20 season, Farke’s team faced relegation with just five wins, ending the campaign with ten consecutive losses.

In the following season, after achieving promotion, Farke managed only one win in eleven top-flight games before being replaced by Dean Smith. His overall Premier League record stands at 49 matches, in which he has secured just six wins, suffering 35 losses and earning a mere 26 points.

Other Managers at Risk

Brentford’s new manager, Keith Andrews, is also regarded as vulnerable at 6/1 odds. The 44-year-old was recently appointed on a three-year deal after Thomas Frank moved to Tottenham, stepping up from his role as set-piece coach. While respected within the club, Andrews is facing his first senior managerial role during a period of change. Notably, key players like Christian Norgaard have already left for Arsenal, and others such as Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa are expected to follow.

Similarly, Sunderland’s Regis Le Bris, also at 6/1, faces significant challenges. After earning promotion via the play-offs with no parachute payments, Le Bris must now navigate the Premier League without any top-flight experience and a squad that falls short compared to other promoted teams.
