Hotel Incident Involving Toddler Raises Concerns
A mother has recounted a harrowing experience at the Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool, where her three-year-old daughter, Valencia, was injured when a cabinet fell on her. Danielle Kenny was staying at the hotel with her four children when the incident occurred.
Details of the Incident
On Friday, Danielle, a 35-year-old from Widnes, decided to extend their stay at the hotel after exploring Liverpool’s city center. While preparing to wash her nine-month-old son, Valentino, her two daughters, Valentina, aged two, and Valencia, aged three, were playing nearby. At around 11 AM on Saturday, Valencia opened a corner cabinet, which toppled over and trapped her.
“It was tall, from the floor almost to the ceiling, and it was on three legs with it being a corner unit. She’s tried to open the door on the bottom half of the unit and it’s toppled over,” Danielle explained. “I’ve jumped up as soon as I’ve heard the bang and her scream. I’ve took the unit off her and her whole face and head was pouring with blood,” she added.
Emergency Response and Medical Care
After quickly wrapping Valencia’s head with a towel, Danielle rushed her to the hotel reception, where staff called for an ambulance. Valencia was transported to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, where medical professionals treated a deep 6cm cut and two smaller 2cm cuts on her head. She was discharged later that day.
Emotional Fallout for the Family
Danielle shared her concern for Valencia’s emotional state following the trauma: “Psychologically it’s really affecting her already, she’s been sobbing saying nobody will want to play with her because of her head and her hair, and she won’t go out the door.”
Official Reports and Safety Concerns
The mother has reported the incident to Liverpool City Council and is awaiting their response. Britannia Hotels, the owner of the Adelphi Hotel, has been reached out to for comments.
A Troubling History
This incident echoes a tragic event from nearly three years ago when 21-year-old Chloe Haynes was killed by a falling wardrobe at the same hotel. Following her death on September 10, 2022, three men were arrested but released without charge after police determined it was an accident. An investigation into Chloe’s death remains open, with her mother seeking answers about the circumstances surrounding her daughter’s tragedy.
