Drivers traveling around Birmingham are advised to anticipate ‘long delays’ following a lorry accident this morning on the M6 motorway.
National Highways West Midlands reported that one lane of the southbound carriageway was closed due to the incident at junction 6, which connects to the A38 Aston Expressway. The resulting traffic jam has extended back six miles to junction 8.
In a post on X, National Highways West Midlands stated: “On the #M6 southbound within J6 (#A38M #Aston Expressway junction #Birmingham) 1 lane (of 2) is closed due to a collision involving a lorry. Delays of 45 minutes on the approach, 6 miles congestion back to the #M5 junction (M6 J8 #TameBridge). Updates to follow soon.”
Traffic monitoring service Inrix added: “Long delays and one lane closed due to accident on M6 Southbound at J6 A38 Tyburn Road (Spaghetti Junction). Congestion to J7 (Great Barr).”
