Danny Rohl has departed from his position as manager of Sheffield Wednesday, a club in the Championship, by mutual agreement. His exit comes after he missed the first two weeks of pre-season training due to a dispute with club owner Dejphon Chansiri and ongoing financial difficulties facing the team.

In July, the English Football League (EFL) imposed a third transfer embargo on the club, preventing them from signing any players for fees this summer and during the next two transfer windows in 2026, following repeated delays in player wage payments.

Several first-team staff members, including Sascha Lense, Chris Powell, Neil Thompson, and Sal Bibbo, have also exited the club.

In a statement, Sheffield Wednesday expressed their gratitude: “Sheffield Wednesday would like to thank Danny and his backroom team for their services and wish them well for the future.”

Rohl has recently been rumored to be under consideration for other managerial roles, particularly with Leicester City, who had listed him as a candidate to replace Ruud Van Nistelrooy. However, Leicester opted not to pursue Rohl, citing the complexities surrounding the financial challenges at Sheffield Wednesday as well as his contractual situation.

The 36-year-old German took the reins at Sheffield Wednesday in October 2023, successfully guiding the team away from relegation after inheriting a squad that managed just two points from their first ten matches. He led the team to a 12th-place finish in the previous season.

Sheffield Wednesday is set to kick off their new season against Leicester City on Sunday, August 10, a match that will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.

More updates will follow. To catch the EFL, fans can look forward to over 1,000 matches airing on Sky Sports this season, with each of the 72 EFL clubs expected to be featured live more than 20 times. Matches will be available on both traditional Sky Sports channels and the Sky Sports app. For those without a Sky subscription, the EFL can also be viewed on NOW without a contract.
