As our coverage comes to a close, we reflect on a truly historic day for the Lionesses. Around 65,000 fans gathered in London to celebrate England’s impressive victory, as the team paraded down the Mall in an open-top bus towards Buckingham Palace.
Many supporters arrived early in the morning, while the players had barely rested since their match in Basel. However, the excitement was electric throughout the event.
The atmosphere was invigorated by a performance from Burna Boy, who took to the stage set up outside the palace, joined by his self-proclaimed ‘biggest fan,’ England head coach Sarina Wiegman. Heather Small also delivered a powerful rendition of the Lionesses’ anthem, ‘Proud.’
The celebration was well-deserved, following England’s dramatic 3-1 victory over World Cup champions Spain in a penalty shootout during Sunday’s final.
In a heartfelt speech, captain Leah Williamson assured the nation that the team’s journey is far from over, with the Women’s World Cup just two years away. With that spirit, we look forward to seeing everyone there again!
